THE FIRST FIVE YEARS OF THE
COUNCIL:
Council 8565 of the Knights of Columbus was born in January 1984 with 44 charter
members. Elected Charter Grand Knight was SK Jun Vera, with SK Rolly Suarez as
Deputy Grand Knight and Sir Freddie Webb as Chancellor. However, GK Vera
unexpectedly migrated abroad so a new election was held in May 1984 for the
officers of Columbian year 1984-85. Elected was Oscar M. Alejandro as GK and Max
Aguinaldo as DGK.

CY 1984-1986
The new GK immediately went into the business of
consolidating the Council and strengthening its
membership. For the next two and a half years, all club
meetings and functions were held at his residence since
there was still no clubhouse. The Council then decided
to raise funds for a permanent home. The first car
lottery was held shortly before Christmas of 1985.
Thereafter, the cornerstone of the new clubhouse was
laid. The council also started several community and
church projects, among which were the construction of a
waiting shed near the church; the cleaning of the creek
between the church h and the clubhouse; Christmas
gift-giving in depressed areas; traffic control during
Sunday masses in the vicinity of the church; and
conducting a summer basketball tournament for the youth.
CY 1986-1988
SK Max Aguinaldo took over as Grand Knight FOR Columbian
years 1986-1988. His DGK for his first year was SK Art
Ello, and for the second year was SK Larry Abano. GK
Aguinaldo will be remembered as the builder of our
clubhouse. To him goes the credit of completing the
Council 8565 clubhouse during his two-year term. The
clubhouse turned out to be one of the best in the
district, if not in the entire country. It serves not
only the K of C but other church mandated organizations
as well.
GK Max Aguinaldo also launched several council, church
and community activities. The basketball court was
fenced and bleachers constructed. Council 8565 became
the bowling champion for the District in 1986-1988 with
Bro. Rene de Leon bagging the individual championship
trophy. The second and third car lotteries were
successfully conducted in 1986 and 1987. The ceiling of
the church was painted. Another basketball tournament
was conducted for the youth. The first mass wedding for
unwed couples was sponsored by the Council. For the
family, excursions to Batangas and Cavite topped off our
activities.
CY 1988-1989
SK Larry Abano was elected Grand Knight for Columbian
Year 1988-1989. His DGK was SK Pat Lapus. While GK
Alejandro would be remembered as having guided the
Council during its difficult formative years and having
initiated the construction of a clubhouse, and GK
Aguinaldo would be credited as the builder of the
clubhouse, GK Abano and DGK Lapus started to etch their
names in the history of Council 8565 by launching a
Service Program that the National Headquarters of the
Knights of Columbus in the Philippines acknowledged in
its letter as the best ever produced, and endorsed it as
a model for other councils to adopt.
It was during CY 1988-1989 that participation in church
sponsored activities was intensified. Among the
achievements were; mass wedding for unwed couples,
installation of K of C Logo at the clubhouse, holding of
various spiritual activities, exemplifications at all
levels and a successful family outing in 1989 at Pansol.
It was during GK Larry Abano’s term that the council won
the “SHARE THE SPIRIT” membership contest by attaining a
record of 5% net gain in membership for the period 1
January – 31 December 1988. The new KC flag was received
from the Supreme Council in New Haven, Connecticut, USA,
as an award for the achievement.

All these years, the ladies group of council 8565 had
been actively participating in many of our activities.
They were able to raise funds to provide the clubhouse
with silver and chinaware for our monthly meetings and
other affairs, act as handmaid in all activities of the
council particularly in areas were the “lady’s touch” is
required.
FOR THE COLUMBIAN YEAR 2009-2010. . .
Under the leadership of the current officers and
directors, the Council has accomplished the following:
